I am a dreamer, a slum girl and The Future Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Confused? 15 years ago, I would never have dreamt of being a strong, independent and progressive woman.
I lived in a Shantytown in Dhaka, Bangladesh. My future was written, get married off at 11 to an older man, become an uneducated housewife and be confined to living my whole life in Gawair, a small village that I believed was the entire world. That is of course until someone walked in and improved my life forever.
My name is Shewly Akter and in 2034;
I WILL BE PRIME MINISTER OF BANGLADESH
This is my story.
I am 21 years old, from Bangladesh. I met Maria Conceicao, who from Portugal, when I was 6 years old and since then my life completely changed. She has a foundation in Dhaka known as Maria Cristina Foundation and for the last 15 years, she has been supporting the underprivileged children to go to school and obtain a quality education.
This provided me and many others like me an opportunity to dream I am so grateful to all those who helped me, My friends back home and MCF toward making our dreams come true. At the very beginning of the foundation in 2005,
When we saw Maria for the first time we didn't know if she was a real human being because we had never seen any other skin color than black/brown. I never knew a world existed beyond Gawair, my village; it was my entire world. Countries such as United Arab Emirates, America and Australia were beyond my imagination; it’s unheard of.
I am from a world, where children as young as 5 years old are totally normal to go and do jobs in an extreme conditions like constructions sites, garments factories, local restaurants, tea shops or do highly dangerous labors works and earn very little for themselves so that they can support their own meal, and if fortunate enough, maybe some support to their family.
When girls get their first period parents think and the society thinks that it is absolutely the right time for them to get married and it's normal to get married to a man who is 5 times older than her. As long as they can provide financial support, age is just a number. One day suddenly comes a strange voice in my ears who tells me totally different things, that no one has ever told me before, neither I heard from my parents, friends or society " dream big Shewly as big as you want because you are capable of being anything you want in your life." If you want you could be the next leader, next Richard Branson, Next Elon Musk, CEO of multinational companies and change the world for better.
You can. You will.
I just completed my second year of university in France and applying for my Master's Degrees in Public Policy and law. Continue the paying it forward by sponsoring a child to make the impact on breaking the cycle of poverty all over the world.

During this period, I had hundreds of struggles and thousands of experiences that made me the person I am today. I would relish the opportunity to give the insight into the type of person I am more intimately so they know exactly who their prime minister is.
